From idea to deployment in just one day, plus food, fun, and learning

Youth aged 12-18 years old are invited to attend the herScript Hackathon on Sunday, April 23, 2016, for a chance to create an app using MIT’s App Inventor, and learn what it takes to complete the app development process from idea to deployment in just one day. No previous coding experience is necessary.

Participants will be competing against other teams to create the best app for the hackathon’s theme, which will be revealed on the day of the event. Different prizes will be rewarded for each of the three categories that fit within the theme. Each team will be partnered with a mentor, and will be coached throughout the entire process.

“The event is a fundraiser to help support the CSin3 herScript chapter. With over 40% female membership, the Digital NEST is committed to partnering with local groups that are doing the important work of empowering young women in tech. herScript is changing the environment for women pursuing a tech career by creating a network of support and encouragement within the CS world. This event will be a great opportunity to connect young women to CS concepts and innovations in a safe, supportive and creative environment. We can’t wait to see the ideas and solutions that are sparked at this event!” — Yethzéll Díaz, Education Manager at Digital NEST.

Diaz added, “Digital NEST is fortunate to have great support  for our Athena group (women of the NEST) and other female-focused activities through grant sponsorship from the Newman’s Own Foundation and the Baskin Foundation.” CSUMB and Hartnell College are sponsoring some of the prizes and food.
