MBEP Welcomes Three New Board Members

Monterey Bay Economic Partnership (MBEP) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members of the Board of Directors. Bringing diverse and extensive experience in business, education and local government, these new board members share MBEP’s mission of improving the economic health and quality of life in the region.
Joining the MBEP Board of Directors are Joe Burton, president and CEO of Poly, Cynthia K. Larive, chancellor of the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), and Michael McHatten, City Manager, City of Soledad.
Joe Burton is president and CEO of Poly and is also on the Board of Directors. Burton joined Plantronics in 2011 and has held executive positions at the company. Prior to Plantronics, Burton held roles at Polycom, Cisco and Active Voice. Burton has a BS degree in Computer Information Systems from Excelsior College, attended the Stanford Executive Program, and is a member of the Board of Directors for Dominican Hospital Foundation.
Cynthia Larive recently became the 11 th chancellor of UC Santa Cruz. Previously, she was the provost and executive vice-chancellor of UC Riverside. A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Chemical Society, she serves as an Associate Editor for Analytical Chemistry and holds a Bachelor of Science from South Dakota State University, M.S. degrees from Purdue University, both in chemistry, and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from UC Riverside.
Michael McHatten, who joined the City of Soledad as its city manager in January 2017, has over 25 years of administrative, management and leadership experience. His background includes city administration, strategic planning, municipal finance, and water and wastewater management. He previously served as city administrator for the City of Angels Camp.
“All three of our newest board members embody the spirit of MBEP and share the vision of a thriving Monterey Bay region. They bring leadership experience across sectors of government, education and the private sector that will enhance our ability to address the big issues of housing, transportation, workforce development and technology infrastructure in the Monterey Bay region,” said MBEP President, Kate Roberts.
