Startup Sandbox to coordinate UCSC biotech graduate student intern program

Startup Sandbox has announced that it will coordinate and administer UC Santa Cruz’s corporate internship program for graduate students in the biotech fields such as molecular biology, genomics, and bioinformatics.

The program has long been contemplated by the biotech-related departments at UCSC and by the University’s Office of Industry Alliances and Technology Commercialization (IATC). UCSC was seeking to partner with an outside party that could create the bridge between the University’s staff and students and the biotech and biomedical industry.

Startup Sandbox, with their experience helping UCSC convert academic research into commercially available and successful products and services, became a natural match.

“We have helped numerous entrepreneurs find and hire the best candidates available and our affiliation with UC Santa Cruz will allow us to reach out into the corporate world and match those companies that want to offer grad students some real-world experience and pair them with grad students that want to experience a corporate environment as part of their advanced training and education,” said Lou Pambianco, CEO of Startup Sandbox.

“Our incubator and associated programs have allowed numerous collaborations between the academic research being done on campus and the desire by the biotech community to deliver life-altering and highly personalized medicines” added Pambianco “so we want to extend a helping hand to the graduate students at UC Santa Cruz and introduce them to industry partners that want to get to know them and their ideas as they work together on key projects.”
