Family Code Night is a free, fun event that brings families and children together to do computer programming at elementary schools across the US. Santa Cruz was recently the site of the first-ever Spanish Family Code Nights.

There is a national movement to bring computer science education to schools, but most efforts focus on the children and do not involve their families. Family Code Night is a free, fun event that brings families and children together to do computer programming at elementary schools across the US.

Santa Cruz was recently the site of the first-ever Spanish Family code Nights, led by a collaboration between Santa Cruz City Schools, Santa Cruz Education Foundation, and Education, Training, Research (ETR). The events happened at three elementary schools between February-April 2019.

STEM for All Video Showcase

The team created a video that is featured in the STEM for All Video Showcase between May 13-20, 2019. This video features participants, footage of the event, and highlights relevant research. It includes the views of students, parents, educators, and administrators on why a night of code is so important. These events were supported by funds from the National Science Foundation and Infosys Foundation USA.

In addition to the Spanish Family Code Night video, the website includes a place to comment and ask questions, as well as over 200 videos that show innovative approaches to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. The public is invited to vote on their favorite video.
