Switching to Electric Vehicles reduces your driving emissions by 75% when plugging into the grid, 100% reduction plugging into solar.

We are excited to be hosting our NATIONAL DRIVE ELECTRIC WEEK EVent in downtown Santa Cruz, Saturday, September 9, 12-3 pm, on Cooper Street between Pacific Avenue and Front Street.

  • Santa Cruz Drive Electric Week EVent
  • Saturday, September 9, 12-3pm
  • Cooper Street (between Pacific Ave and Front Street)
  • Organized by Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Alliance, Ecology Action, Central Coast Chapter of the Electric Auto Association

The whole block will be closed to traffic and we will have a number of the most popular Electric Vehicles and an all-Electric Motorcycle, the Zero, on display. Join us to view these vehicles up close and talk with owners and other EV experts. In addition, we will be offering Test Drives and Rides of a few EVs and will have Electric Bike Test Rides.

The event will also feature information booths where you can talk with local solar companies who have experience in installing home charging stations, gather educational resources from our Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Alliance/Electric Auto Association booth and more. Sandbar Solar will have their Solar array trailer with an Electric Vehicle plugged into it to demonstrate the big picture of what emissions-free driving looks.

National Drive Electric Week will be happening in 244 cities so far, mostly across the country, with increasing numbers internationally, including this year, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Croatia, India, Jordan and New Zealand, United Kingdom, and some European Countries. We have been doing these EVents since 2011 when it was first called National Plug In Day. Our purpose is to educate the public about the benefits of Driving Electric and the critical need to reduce emissions immediately.

Switching to Electric Vehicles reduces your driving emissions by 75% when plugging into the grid, 100% reduction plugging into solar. As our tri-county area, Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito, goes online with our Community Choice Energy, called the Monterey Bay Community Power, expected in early 2018, the grid will continue to green up for even further emissions reductions locally. Climate Assessments of cities and counties in our region showed that over 50% of our emissions come from vehicles. Our EVent represents the entire Central Coast.

Our event will be next to the new Abbott Square Marketplace which just opened, featuring a number of restaurants that you could check out. Nationally the EVent is sponsored by the Sierra Club, Plug In America and the Electric Auto Association. Locally the Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Alliance, Ecology Action and the Central Coast Chapter of the Electric Auto Association have organized the EVent and all work ongoingly to produce EVents and providing information to support the adoption of cleaner driving and overall climate changing emissions reductions.
