[Editor’s note: Santa Cruz Tech Beat published Round-the-clock work on new Ebola genome browser (October 2, 2014) about how a team of UC Santa Cruz genomics researchers released a new Ebola genome browser to help assist in vaccine efforts. This week, NBC Bay Area broadcast a news story about this cutting edge work being done at UC Santa Cruz. The broadcast (below) is based on an interview with Dr. Jim Kent, Director of the Genome Browser project, and showcases the research underway at UCSC. Dr. Kent also writes about the Ebola epidemic in this blog post.]

“University of California Santa Cruz is mixing science and technology, trying to find a vaccine for the dreaded Ebola virus. Researchers at the school are taking a page from the SETI handbook, developing an open source web browser to collect information about the Ebola virus, and how it’s spreading. It’s a way to bring in new information and share it quickly with other scientists.” (NBC Bay Area)
