Lou Pambianco, CEO of Startup Sandbox, interviews Mary Noe, the founder and CEO of Switchback Systems.

Switchback Systems is an early stage startup engaged in the rapid development of a highly scalable DNA synthesis platform, with a focus on dramatic minimization of time, cost, and waste, for utilization in a wide range of nucleic acid applications. It is a venture-backed member of the Startup Sandbox. A developing, high-volume demand for low-cost DNA synthesis is DNA data storage. DNA is a highly efficient and compact storage medium resulting from billions of years of chemical evolution. There is an exciting potential to leverage this elegant and stable code to help solve the impending data storage crisis. In the coming decades, current data storage media do not scale with the projected volume of data generation, and DNA data storage is primed to offer a breakthrough solution. Switchback was founded in 2019 by Mary Noé, who is an oligonucleotide chemist with nearly two decades of direct experience in oligonucleotide synthesis.
