Pearl’s little device may save you from a ticket

“Here in California, a law came into effect on January 1st, 2017 that now forbids drivers from “holding and operating” their device for any reason unless it’s mounted for use with a tap or swipe.”

Today, the newest and most advanced technology you bring into your car is the phone you carry with you everyday. Most people have abandoned in-car navigation systems and traditional radio for apps like Google Maps, Waze, Podcasts and Spotify. The rise in popularity of these phone apps have made it critical now more than ever for people to find a safe place to mount their phones while driving.

As we were developing RearVision, the only wireless backup camera and alert system that uses your phone as your rearview screen, we did extensive research into how people view their phones in their vehicle. We found that for most people, the primary location for the phone in the car is in their cup holders or on their laps. Truth is, these are not ideal placements as they result in more time that your eyes are off the road each time you check your phone. As a company that’s focused on providing safety features through the aftermarket, we felt a keen responsibility to design a magnetic phone mount to include with our first product, RearVision. Just shortly after the launch, we started selling the mount separately due to the overwhelming requests from our customers to do so.

While phone usage in cars has become prevalent and essential, they need to be used responsibly. In states such as New York, Oregon and Nevada handheld cell phone use has been prohibited for years. The government has also been passing new laws to guide drivers to safer usage. Here in California, a law came into effect on January 1st, 2017 that now forbids drivers from “holding and operating” their device for any reason unless it’s mounted for use with a “tap or swipe.” While mounting our phones has become top of mind for us here in California, it’s likely that other states will be quick to follow.

The Pearl Phone Mount not only ensures you’re following the law, but makes the drive safer and the overall experience with in-car apps more enjoyable. The mount was designed to be highly functional, yet stunning. The polished carbon steel gimbal provides 140˚ degrees of rotation, the tuned magnets provide easy one handed use and the interchangeable bases make it work in almost every vehicle.

We believe we’ve designed something that you will be proud to have in your car. Give it a try; we’re sure you will love it! The Pearl phone mount is now available on our website, Crutchfield and Amazon.
