The third Startup Weekend Monterey Bay happens this weekend at CSUMB. The event is for new and experienced entrepreneurs to join in an intense weekend of entrepreneuring. Community members and students work in teams to develop proposed businesses over the weekend and pitch them on Sunday night. Doors open at 4:00 pm Friday afternoon.

Mentors and coaches provide guidance and encouragement, and short optional workshops help on finances and pitch development. But most of the learning (and all of the fun!) is in the doing.

Anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation.

The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback. Judges for the event will be Karen Hargove, Jeremy Neuner, Brooks McChesney, Niki Manby, and Andy Van Valer.

Whether particpants found companies, find a co-founder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups.

Previous teams from Startup Weekend Monterey Bay went on to compete and become finalists in the region’s new venture business competition Startup Challenge.

Registration is still open; if you want to join in the fun, register now.
